Attending a virtual memorial service over Zoom gives you the option to select a custom background. This feature minimizes any distractions in your physical background when attending the service and also allows you to creatively express condolences for the deceased. Here, we describe the steps to setting up a virtual background on Zoom. We have also included 9 free backgrounds for your convenience.
How to change your background before a meeting:
Save the desired image to your computer.
Open the Zoom application and log into your account.
Click the settings icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
Click on the “Virtual Backgrounds” tab.
Select one of the default options or use your own photo.
To use your custom photo, click the + button, “Add Image”, and then select the image that you saved on your computer.
How to change your background during a meeting:
Save the desired image on your computer.
Join a meeting and click on the up arrow next to “Stop Video” in the bottom left corner.
Click “Choose Virtual Background”.
Click the + button, “Add Image”, and then select the desired image from your computer.
It is wise to put some thought into your choice of background as other guests and family members will be able to see the image if your camera is on.
One option is to use a picture of the deceased in memory of your loved one. Another option is to find an appropriate picture online. Be sure that your image is good quality and is respectful for the occasion. Below, we have provided 9 free backgrounds that you may use.
Tip: Zoom recommends images with a 16:9 aspect ratio to best fit the video screen.
